Mission

At MMS, we maximize opportunities through a personalized, safe, and supportive learning environment so our students can reach their highest potential. This mission statement was developed with input from both students and staff.  In addition to having a school-wide mission, classrooms also establish their own mission statement as this provides an opportunity for students to collaboratively define their outcomes and identify their end in mind.

Meet the Team

Mattoon Middle School’s Lighthouse Team is composed of 13 students and 13 faculty.  They meet monthly to identify, plan, and achieve targeted results in the areas of leadership, culture, and academics.  In addition to our Lighthouse team, we also have Leadership, Culture, and Academic Action Teams which meet monthly, or more frequently if needed.

Our Leadership Action Team, composed of 13 students and 9 faculty members, focuses on developing and supporting paradigms and practices that result in highly effective adults and students who are future-ready leaders in their school and community. Our Culture Action Team, composed of 10 students and 15 faculty members, aims to build a high-trust school culture where every person’s voice is heard, their talents are recognized, and their potential is affirmed through meaningful contributions. Our Academics Team is composed of 7 students and 12 faculty members who work collaboratively to develop engaged students who are equipped to achieve and entrusted to lead their own learning.
