The start of the 23-24 school year brought with it a significant leadership transition at MMS as we welcomed a new principal, assistant principal, and dean of students. Thankfully, the systems we have in place, specifically in regards to our alignment with the Leader in Me Framework in our committee structure (building-wide action teams open to all staff members) and our foundation of shared leadership, have enabled us to have a smooth transition. For example, during the 22-23 school year, our administrators and Lighthouse Coordinators set up a cadence of accountability by scheduling weekly meetings to discuss our goal progress and this will continue throughout the 23-24 school year. Adult leadership capacity is developed and celebrated through meaningful participation in school decisions. For example, at the start of this school year, staff worked collaboratively to develop our lead measures for our school-wide WIGs. Ongoing personal growth is supported by opportunities to learn through and contribute to the Leader in Me Community by participating in symposiums, local Community Learning Days, quarterly coaching days with our Leader in Me Coach, and engaging in building and district-level training twice per year. In addition, both Lighthouse Coordinators have a DEN group which provides the opportunity to implement LiM lessons and activities, engage in the 4DX process, develop Leadership Portfolios with students, and model and share with others.
