15 minute block daily included in the building schedule for family meal, morning meeting, and SEL direct Lessons at least twice a week.
Students should be focused on one of the habits each month from September to April during these morning meetings and lessons.
All classes start the school year using the First 8 Days lessons.
Teachers utilize resources from the Leader in Me online platform to present and support lessons. Teachers are encouraged to solicit ways students are relating the habits to their own lives and learning.
Students are allowed to teach others actively. Teachers encourage students to create posters, videos, or other materials that showcase the 7 Habits and share them with their peers.
In addition, students of every age take part in classes that focus on the 7 Habits. This approach encourages positive habits and creates a sense of togetherness and accountability within the school.
The habits were highlighted on the building wide school announcements to show how adults from our staff use the habits also.
The 7 Habits help redirect behaviors, engage students in academics, and help students make friends and work in groups.
During Williams Summer Camp Student from Mattoon Middle school and Mattoon High School came over to teach our 3rd and 5th grade students with the LEADit! Program. These students dove deep into the 7 Habits and had our elementary students participating in realistic scenarios, journaling, and whole group conversations about Leader in Me
