3.2 - Social-Emotional Environment

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

Each day students at Riddle begin their day eating breakfast as valued members of a family in their classrooms. They have the opportunity to then participate in morning meetings to discuss feelings, events of the day, and various other activities. This time is intentionally set aside to make certain that each student has trusted relationships with teachers.

Mission statements are displayed throughout the building as well. All stakeholders in the classroom have the opportunity to help create their classroom’s unique statement.

Effort is also made to make families and students feel welcome throughout the building. Secretaries welcome families as they enter the building. Staff often reaches out to families to share student successes.

WIN the Month celebrations and gold slip drawings ensure contributions are being intentionally made into students emotional bank accounts as often as possible.

More Details:

  • Calming corners are a safe place for students to regulate their behavior and reflect on choices.

  • Principals greet students at our Welcome Back Parade.

  • Classroom created mission statements in every room.

  • Riddle Perks: Colleagues recognize greatness in each other.

  • Each classroom has their own unique rewards system to support social emotional needs.

  • A 5th-grade student who helps lead a line of 2nd graders to their classroom made a prize box because she noticed her class struggled with following expectations. She gathered little prizes and created a prize box. She plans to award one prize each day to a student sitting quietly and listening.

Students recite our school mission statement each day on the news. Gold slips are drawn each week and students are recognized for living the 7 Habits throughout the building.
