LIFT’s systems are supported through integrated approaches by incorporating leadership for the 21 century. In regards to student mentoring, students and facilitators engage in weekly one on one meetings that discuss students personal and professional goals, review students WIGs and check progress on lead measures, how students are applying their leadership content, and feedback on student progress on course content.
Learning at LIFT is built upon integrating subject matter to student strengths and interest. Students have the autonomy to lead their own learning and are supported through weekly one on one check ins with their facilitators and daily check ins with their accountability partners or class. Facilitators engage in monthly action team meetings and daily lunch meetings which build coworker relationships, trust, and co-decision making (shared leadership). Classroom leadership roles connect to professional models (ex: foreman, CEO, Project Lead, etc.). Students also hold facilitators accountable for their WIGs during weekly whole-group meetings.
Daily activities support students development as people and as leaders. Weekly motivational messages, TGIM messages, are sent out and discussed in various classroom with a connection to bettering oneself, developing a growth mindset, and the 7 Habits. Students are leaders of their own learning and are able to work at their own pace and select topics connected to their interested when learning. Weekly celebrations are held as a whole school through our Coffee Bean card celebration. Students and staff look for ways that anyone at LIFT is making a difference and write a coffee bean card to be entered into our weekly competition and drawing. This has become a small way to publicly recognize how students and staff and cultivating change in LIFT and throughout the communities we serve.
