At Franklin Preschool, our social-emotional environment is very important to us. We want our students and staff to experience positive feelings along with being encouraged, appreciated and valued. We have a Sunshine Committee that regularly works to make staff feel important and promotes a healthy social-emotional culture and climate. The Sunshine Committee organizes potlucks, special treats, and staff shout-outs & awards to make everyone feel appreciated.
Super Friends
We have universal expectations that all students know called “Super Friends.” Super Friends have “Watching Eyes,” “Listening Ears,” and a “Calm Body.” Students hear these expectations daily. Each classroom has a lending library with Second Step and Leader in Me books for students to take home. Second Step and LiM lessons are taught in every classroom weekly. We hang visuals at students’ eye level so students can refer to the visuals throughout the day. Calm down corners are in every classroom to provide students with healthy social-emotional tools to promote emotional regulation. Mission statements are made collaboratively with students to give children a sense of family and belonging to the classroom.
